Union drops Week 3 game to West Delaware at home
LA PORTE CITY — Knights football hosted the non-district West Delaware Hawks last Friday night, dropping the game 42-12 during Patriot Night at Union Stadium which honored those who have served in the military or as first responders.
While the freshmen/sophomore team kicked off the evening on a positive note with a win 20-14 over the Hawks, the Varsity squad was not as fortunate, encountering a skilled West Delaware offense that rushed for 305 yards total – half of which Hawk quarterback Brent Yonkovic claimed by carrying the ball 17 times for three touchdowns.
Union quarterback Caden Sorensen led the Knights offense, going 11-for-16 and connecting with five receivers for two touchdowns while throwing one interception. He also kept the ball 8 times for 11 yards.
Running back Levi Hadacek was the rushing leader and leading receiver for the Knights – carrying the ball 13 times for 60 yards, while receiving twice for 44 yards. Logan Rosauer received twice for 28 yards and a touchdown.
Rosauer led Union’s defense with 7 total tackles (6 solo) and one interception for a three yard return.
Brock Ruzicka punted five times for 193 yards.
This week the Knights take to the road for their first District 6 pairing of the season against the winless Iowa Falls-Alden (0-3). Kickoff is set for Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. on Cadet Field in Iowa Falls. It is Homecoming for the Cadets.
