GRUNDY CENTER – Both the Union and North Tama cross country teams competed last week Thursday at the Grundy Center-hosted Sam Iverson Invitational held on the grounds of the Town and Country Golf Club.

North Tama’s girls placed ninth overall with 237 points, while Union’s girls posted a top-5 team finish – coming in third with 83 points.

Jamie Jacobs led the Redhawks placing 28th in 23:15. Amilia “Millie” Condon led the Knights, taking fourth with a time of 20:12.

The Redhawk boys did not field a full team. Andrew Beenken led North Tama with a time of 21:28, 66th overall.

Union’s boys team placed eighth overall with 210 points. Sawyer Spence crossed the finish line first for the team, coming in at 12th with a time of 18:40.

Heading into the week, Union girls were ranked 13th in Class 2A with Condon ranked No. 7 individually.

The Knights were scheduled to run at Jesup on Tuesday of this week, followed by the Wolverine Invitational at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike on Oct. 3. Nearly 30 teams are set to compete at Dike including North Tama.

Prior to Dike, North Tama was next scheduled to run at South Hardin on Saturday, Sept. 30.
