Redhawks blast Baxter – sweep Meskawki and Tripoli as regular season wraps up

BAXTER – North Tama volleyball swept Baxter 3-0 last Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Baxter High School.

The Redhawks, ranked sixth in 1A, won 25-11, 25-10, 25-8.

Kruiz Ewoldt was the top attacker with eight kills, Izzy Hallett added five kills.

Addison Hochstetler chipped in 12 digs and Hallett had nine digs.

North Tama hammered the Bolts with 24 ace serves, including seven for Ewoldt, five for Kylie Calderwood and four each for Adi Fuller and Zoey Rausch.

On Thursday, the Redhawks hosted a triangular with Meswaki and Tripoli – their last regular season home game. North Tama quickly swept Meskwaki 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-12) and then did the same against Tripoli 2-0 (25-18, 25-23).

Against the Panthers, Ewoldt led the Redhawk offense with 14 kills and Hallett had five. Rausch had 22 assists.

On defense, Hochstetler had a dozen digs, while Hallett had 11 and Calderwood had six. North Tama notched six aces against Tripoli including two by Calderwood who was 17-for-18 at the serve line.

Heading into this week, the Redhawks are now 20-13 on the season.

North Tama will host the Iowa Star Conference Volleyball Tournament next weekend on Oct. 14. The Redhawks are 6-1 in the Iowa Star South.

In the postseason, North Tama has earned a Class 1A Region 7 first round bye. They will face either Keota or Lone Tree on October 18 at 7 p.m. in Traer.

Other Region 7 teams include No. 12 Don Bosco, Cedar Valley Christian, Central City, East Buchanan, English Valleys, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Iowa Valley, North Linn, Springville, WACO, and Wapello.
