Knights notch second win, make playoffs

STATE CENTER – Union football took on district opponent West Marshall last Friday in the final regular season matchup, beating the Trojans 14-6 and securing a playoff berth.

The game took place amid wet and sloppy conditions as the state received much-needed rainfall. This was Union’s second win of the season.

Knights quarterback Andrew Sadler led the offense, going 3-for-5 for 68 passing yards and a 24- yard touchdown to receiver Logan Rosauer.

Ryan DeVries led the Knights’ rushing game with 20 carries across 78 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Union had 46 tackles total with Brayden Bohnsack leading the way with six (five solo). Brock Bergmeier and Wyatt Walker had one sack apiece. Caleb Olson recovered one Trojans fumble.

Brock Ruzicka kicked off three times for 132 yards and 2-for-2 PATs; he also punted four times for 124 yards total.

This Friday (Oct. 20), the No. 4 seed Knights (2-6) travel to Waukon to face the No. 1 seed Indians (5-3) in the first round of the Iowa high school football playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Waukon High School.
