Union netters now No. 1 in the conference, Rosauer breaks school blocking record

The Union Knights boys basketball team has only lost one game thus far this season heading into the week after narrowly dropping a road game to Independence 60-57 back on Nov. 28.

The Knights have notched wins over Central City, AGWSR, Wapsie Valley, and Oelwein and are now tied with Jesup for No. 1 in the NICL-East conference.

Team leaders thus far this season include sophomores Caden Sorensen with 102 points (18 3-pointers) and 28 assists and Cameron Mullen with 58 points (13 3-pointers) and 15 assists.

Senior Logan Rosauer leads the defense with a whopping 47 total rebounds and 12 blocks. Rosauer set Union’s single game block record on Friday, Dec. 8 on the road against the Oelwein Huskies.

According to a post by the Union Boosters published on Bound, Rosauer “played a key role in the second half as he made it hard for Oelwein to penetrate and get any easy baskets. On the night, Rosauer blocked [seven] Oelwein shot attempts, breaking the previous school record of [six] blocks in a single game.”

In Class 2A, Mullen is currently (as of Monday, Dec. 11) tied for third in 3-point attempts with 44, while Sorensen is tied for third in 3-pointers made with 18.

Sorensen is also tied for third in 2A for assists with 28.

The Knights were scheduled to see action again on Friday, Dec. 15 at Sumner-Fredericksburg, followed by another road game at Jesup on Dec. 18 with both games set to tip off following the girls games.
