Case Monat records 100th win on DNH mats
DIKE – One of North Tama’s most experienced wrestlers, top-ranked Case Monat earned the 100th win of his high school career last week Thursday during a quad hosted by Dike-New Hartford.
The senior Redhawk wrestler secured the milestone win in a bout with DNH’s Karson VanHeiden – a match he won by pinfall in one minute, two seconds.
North Tama head coach Andrew Knaack said he is immensely proud of Monat.
“Case has been a leader for the program,” Coach Knaack told the Telegraph. “[He] helped start [Redhawk wrestling’s] culture of winning. He was in the group to break through and make the state tournament.”
Monat was one of a trio of wrestlers during the 2021-22 season who broke North Tama’s 20 year state tournament drought. Monat also qualified for the state tournament last season.
At Dike, Monat went 3-0. In addition to his win over DNH, he also took down North Fayette Valley’s Blake Sparrgrove by fall in 2:34. Against Oelwein, Monat received a win by forfeit.
Following the holiday break, Monat and his teammates will be back on the mats on January 4, hosting a triangular with Lynnville-Sully and HLV as the Redhawks work toward the season finish in February.
“[This is] Case’s final season and last chance to make a run at the state tournament,” Coach Knaack continued. “Getting 100 wins is an accomplishment. Proud of him.”
