Redhawk wrestlers compete in Wapsie Valley triangular

FAIRBANK – While most high school sporting events were canceled last week due to the snowstorms that bookended the work week, some members of the Redhawk boys wrestling team managed to travel to Fairbank Thursday evening for a triangular with both host Wapsie Valley and Sumner-Fredericksburg.

North Tama lost both duals that evening mostly due to forfeits – falling 48-28 to the Cougars and 71-9 to the Warriors.

Against the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars, the Redhawks managed three wins on the mat – Case Monat (126) over Trice Anderson by pinfall in a smoking 34 seconds; Gavin Rausch (150) by pinfall over Kyler Glenn in three minutes, 55 seconds; and Drayke Dvorak (106) by major decision, 8-0 over Michael Eimers.

In addition, Kolt Knaack and Max Monat won their respective brackets by forfeit.

Against the host Warriors, North Tama earned just one win on the mat – Max Monat (113) beat Sawyer Krall by decision, 5-2. Points were also earned by Kolt Knaack who won by forfeit.

Case Monat, Dvorak, Rausch, and Brayton Stickles were all pinned by their Wapsie Valley opponents, while Kane Kucera lost by technical fall.

Weather permitting, the boys were scheduled to travel to Hudson on Thursday, Jan. 18 for a triangular with the Pirates and Denver.

Both the boys and the girls squads will be back home one last time this weekend on Saturday, Jan. 20 for the North Tama Wrestling Tournament. The tourney will be the girls final regular season appearance before the road to Coralville begins.

Boys teams scheduled to wrestle in Traer include Baxter, Beckman Catholic, BGM, Cascade, Columbus Catholic, Hudson, Mid-Prairie, Riceville, Sigourney Keota, Tripoli, and West Marshall; girls teams include Baxter, BCLUW-South Hardin Storm, Cascade, and Moravia.
