Lady Knights defeat the Trojans on Senior Night

LA PORTE CITY – The Union Knights girls basketball team hosted the South Tama Trojans last Monday (Jan. 31) at Union High School. The Knights were ready to attack from the opening tip and quickly jumped to a 15-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.

That lead expanded to 15 points by halftime, before the Knights put away the Trojans by a final score of 47-25.

The Knights’ offensive attack was led by senior Ava Mills, who scored 24 points. Brigitte Rohrer added another 10 points for the Knights. Sophomore Reagan Glenn secured 11 rebounds for the Knights, as did Mills, while Rohrer added on eight of her own. Mills finished with a double-double for the Knights.

Both Mills and Rohrer were recognized on Senior Night as well while senior Reagan Sorensen missed the game due to illness. She was recognized at the next home game on Friday, Feb. 2. Thank you to our seniors for their dedication to the Union Knights girls’ basketball program!

Later in the week on Thursday, the Knights traveled to Wapsie Valley High School where they narrowly lost to the Warriors 50-48.

On Friday, Union fell 64-34 to the No. 13 Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons at home.

The Knights faced Gladbrook-Reinbeck on the road this week Monday in their final regular season game before heading to West Delaware on Saturday (Feb. 10) for the Class 3A Region 6 postseason first round.

The Knights were 4-16 (0-7) on the season entering the week.

Ava Mills and Reagan Sorensen led the Knights during the 2023-24 regular season by scoring 228 and 204 points, respectively. In addition, Mills had 111 rebounds, 34 assists, 32 steals, and three blocks, while Sorensen had 51 rebounds, 41 assists, 36 steals, and one block.

Sophomore Reagan Glenn also proved instrumental to the Knights’ defensive game, notching 112 rebounds and 24 steals.
