Redhawks rally to beat Bears in overtime for district quarterfinal win

TRAER — The North Tama boys’ basketball team rallied from 12 points down to force overtime before beating BGM 56-50 in this past Monday’s Class 1A District 11 quarterfinal.

The Redhawks (8-11) trailed 44-32 entering the fourth period before outscoring the visiting Bears 16-4 in the final frame. Kayler Morris made 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game with 32 seconds left, and a pair of late shot attempts by North Tama were off target.

The Bears managed just two free throws in overtime, although North Tama left the door open by going 3-for-7 from the charity stripe during extra time. A 3-pointer by Morris and a late three-point play by Josh Dostal were the only field goals.

Morris led North Tama with 12 points and Dostal finished with 10 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Chaz Hall added nine points while Jared Dvorak and Brayton Cibula scored eight points apiece.

Dominic Coleman led BGM (7-15) with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

On Thursday, North Tama lost 87-62 to the sixth-ranked, undefeated Keota Eagles (22-0) in the district semifinals.

The Redhawks end the 2023-24 season third in the conference and 8-12 overall.
