DES MOINES – Knights hurdler Jailyn Petersen (center) competed in the fastest Drake Relays girls 100-meter hurdles heat last Friday morning in Des Moines amid some fairly less than ideal weather conditions and held her own.

The Union junior placed 18th overall out of 32 hurdlers and sixth in her heat with a time of 15.93. While she did not qualify for the finals (only the top-8 advance), she punched above her 21st seed running in the wind, rain, and cold.

This was Petersen’s first appearance at the Drake Relays which are hosted each spring by Drake University on the storied Drake Stadium ‘Blue Oval.’ The meet is part of Drake Relays Week – widely considered one of the United States’ premiere track and field events.
