Redhawk girls beat out Bears for first-round regional title, advance to finals

MARENGO – The North Tama girls golf team took the team title last week Friday during the first round of the Class 1A Regional 4B meet at the Marengo Golf Course.

The Redhawks advanced as a team with their winning 402 total, finishing two strokes ahead of the runner-up West Branch Bears (404). GMG finished sixth with a 517 and Gladbrook-Reinbeck was seventh out of eight finishing teams with 541.

Junior Kylie Calderwood recorded North Tama’s lowest round with 91 for a fourth-place finish, while her teammate, senior Larissa Morrison tied for sixth place with a round of 101.

Other Redhawk finishers included sophomore Brooke Bradley who shot 102 and tied for eighth place; junior Danika Wrage with 108; junior Briar Blake with 112; and senior Kinsley Even with 117.

North Tama moves on to the final round of the Region 4 tournament this Wednesday (May 15) at Monticello Golf Club. Teams scheduled to compete alongside the Redhawks include Belle Plaine, Central City, Don Bosco, Durant, East Buchanan, Easton Valley, hosts Edgewood-Colesburg, Iowa Valley, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Waterloo Christian, and West Branch.
