Comets catch up to Redhawks in ISC softball
CONRAD — North Tama nabbed an early lead but the BCLUW softball team overcame it for a 4-1 victory over the Redhawks in last Thursday’s (June 20) Iowa Star Conference South Division clash.
North Tama (6-7, 6-7) scored in the top of the first inning, but BCLUW (11-9, 8-4) eventually scored more.
Klayre Gallentine scattered eight hits and two walks for the pitching win for the Comets, striking out eight.
Adelyn Sienknecht allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three in the loss for North Tama. Addison Hochstetler was 3-for-4 and scored the Redhawks’ lone run.
Dostal leads Redhawks past Riceville, 2-0
RICEVILLE — The North Tama baseball team scored the game’s only runs in the top of the third inning in a 2-0 triumph over Riceville (10-12) on Wednesday, June 19, in Iowa Star Conference play.
The bottom of the Redhawks’ batting order got the rally started with singles by Clayton Williams and Kayvin Morris. Josh Dostal followed suit, and Kayler Morris plated North Tama’s first run with a groundout. Kolt Knaack’s hit drove in another run for the Redhawks (14-8), and that’s all the offensive support Dostal needed.
Dostal went six innings on the mound for the win, allowing just four hits while striking out four. Henry Hansen earned the save for his eventful inning of relief in which he allowed a hit and walked two.
Redhawks survive Raiders in Iowa Star play
TRAER — The North Tama baseball team scored five times in its first at-bat and never trailed in an 8-5 defeat of Dunkerton on Monday, June 17.
Tyler Popelka pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits, one walk and three hit batsmen. He struck out seven. Josh Dostal gave up three hits but got the final two outs to seal the win for the Redhawks (13-8).
Dostal was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Clayton Williams was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for North Tama. Chaz Hall doubled, drove in three runs and scored, and Kayvin Morris was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Redhawks outrun Royals in Iowa Star baseball
TRAER — The North Tama baseball team jumped out to an early lead and put away Colo-NESCO for a 6-1 win during the Friday, June 14, Iowa Star Conference South Division game.
The Redhawks (12-8, 9-4) scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and twice more in the third to get all the offense they’d need. Henry Hansen pitched a one-hitter, allowing one run on six walks while striking out 10 for the complete-game win.
Gavin Rausch and Kayvin Morris had two hits apiece to lead North Tama, both driving in a run. Hansen hit a double and Tyler Popelka singled and drove in two.
