Seventh grader Josie Monat, right, plays the cymbals as part of the North Tama High School Band’s rendition of the “The Star-Spangled Banner” last Friday on Dennis Field ahead of the Redhawks-Huskies football game. The band is down at least a dozen members this term, according to director Channing Halstead. To fill the void, several talented middle schoolers including Monat and her cousin Lucy Monat, center, on snare drum were brought up to the big leagues Friday to play in the percussion section.
