LA PORTE CITY – Union High School senior Amilia ‘Millie’ Condon ran her way to not just one but two championship finishes last week, blazing past the competition at both the Starmont Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 17) and the Independence Invitational on Thursday (Sept. 19).

At Starmont (pictured) – while running amid 90 degree heat and sporting a ’12’ on her shoulder in memory of fellow senior, Knights football player Gavin Rohrbach who lost his life in a car accident on Sept. 10 – Condon crossed the finish in first at 19:06.7, nearly 42 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, Center Point-Urbana sophomore Grace Estling. Two days later at Independence, she finished again in first with a time of 19:38.8, more than 55 seconds ahead of runner-up Sydney Dee, a senior from Solon.

In the Week 5 Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) rankings published this past Monday, Sept. 23, Condon was ranked No. 4 in Class 2A girls, moving up from No. 5 the week prior. She was No. 9 in the preseason rankings.

This week, the Knights were scheduled to run at Denver on Monday followed by Grundy Center on Thursday.
