LA PORTE CITY – The Union Knights golf teams are back and ready to roll! Head coach Ryan Slater and assistant coach Holden Caloud lead the young Knights into the upcoming season.

The boys return all but one member at the Varsity level. Seniors Tyler Gates and Harrison Bistline will be joined by juniors Henry Hegdahl, Brock Bergmeier, and Brandon Frush. Sophomore Cooper Davis and several underclassmen will look to help the Knights build on last season.

The girls will have big shoes to fill after graduating several seniors who competed at the Varsity level. Current Seniors Amelia Schmitz and Hannah Williams will lead the group this season. They will be joined by returning juniors Taylor Baltes, Ella Grote, and Melanie Yuska.

The girls season opener took place on Thursday, April 3, on the road against Waverly-Shell Rock. The Go-Hawks were triumphant on the Waverly Municipal Golf Course with a team score of 193 versus Union’s 260. Amelia Schmitz was the Knights high scorer with a 9-hole low of 55, taking fourth place.

Union’s boys opened the season this past week on Wednesday, April 9, at the Wapsi Creek Invitational in Anamosa; the girls also competed at Anamosa but started at Fawn Creek Golf Course.
