Schmitz siblings go 1-2 at G-R triangular

REINBECK – The Union Knights girls golf team won the Gladbrook-Reinbeck triangular with Hudson and Union held at Oak Leaf Country Club on Thursday, April 17.

The Knights were led by senior Amelia Schmitz who tallied medalist honors with a 50 in windy conditions. Union finished 243 to G-R’s 275; Hudson did not have enough student-athletes for a team score.

Amelia’s little brother, freshman Nash Schmitz finished runner-up for the boys at Oak Leaf with a 39. The G-R boys won the meet with a 166, followed by Union with a 168, and Hudson at 172.

Earlier that week, on Monday, April 14, Union’s teams traveled to Tripoli to take on Wapsie Valley at Maple Hills Country Club. The meet ended with small hail and driving rain for the last groups coming in but play was completed.

Junior Brock Bergmeier earned medalist honors with a 43, followed by senior Tyler Gates who was runner-up with a 46. The boys won the meet as well.

The girls were led by Amelia Schmitz who earned medalist honors with a 55.
