LA PORTE CITY – On Tuesday, April 22, Union golf hosted Sumner-Fredericksburg led by ‘Senior Sensation’ Chloe Bolte.

Bolte surprised no one with a round of 33 with irons off the tee and solid putting to earn Medalist Honors. Kylee Krueger of S/F was the Runner-Up Medalist with a 48.

On the boys’ side, our team posted a solid score of 162 and was led by junior Brock Bergmeier who carded a 39. There was a three-way tie for second place with a score of 41 including all Union golfers. Junior Henry Hegdahl won Runner-Up Medalist on the cardback to earn his first Union medal. He has been putting in the work this season, so it was good to see those efforts rewarded.

Two days later, on Thursday, April 24, the girls were back in action in a triangular hosted by Vinton-Shellsburg that included South Tama. At the beginning of this season, we were looking for another opponent to add to the calendar and so we reached out to V-S. Both teams enjoyed the camaraderie and competition, and we look forward to renewing our meetings in the future.

Our girls had a rough go of it Tuesday at home for some reason and looked forward to the opportunity to bounce back in the Vinton triangular. The goal was to get our senior leader Amelia Schmitz back in the 40s and get three more scores in the 50s out of our other players – we were able to do so en route to a second-place finish.

Amelia finished in a tie for 4th overall with a 49. South Tama’s Aubrey Dolezal and Maddy Hitchcock finished as Medalist and Runner-Up Medalist with rounds of 43 and 46, respectively.
