Calderwood 10th, Redhawk girls golf falls short of state

NEW SHARON — The North Tama girls’ golf team came up short in its quest to reach the Class 1A state tournament, finishing sixth out of seven teams at the Wednesday, May 21 Region 4 finals at Prairie Knolls Country Club.
The Redhawks came away with a 408 team total, finishing ahead of only Central City (431) in the state-qualifying meet. East Buchanan (356) and Highland (370) earned the two state berths.
North Tama was led by senior Kylie Calderwood, who carded a 92 for 10th place individually. Jessica Morrison (104), Briar Blake (106) and Kensington Pick (109) contributed to the Redhawks’ final score, while Danika Wrage (112) and Brooke Bradley (119) also competed for the squad.
Runner-up finish earns spot at regional final
The Redhawks recorded a 53-shot cushion to capture a spot in the Class 1A regional finals after finishing second at the Friday, May 16 Region 4B meet held at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Winthrop.
North Tama shot 394 – the team’s best since 2022 – to finish in second place behind East Buchanan (368), while Central City (424) also advanced due to host East Buchanan finishing in the top two. Iowa Valley (447) was fourth.
Calderwood earned third place for her round of 88, while Blake and Pick shared seventh place at 99. Morrison completed the Redhawks’ team score with a 108.
