No. 5 Lynx scratch out Redhawks 10-1 in district final

North Tama’s postseason ends in Troy Mills

TROY MILLS – The North Tama baseball team had its season ended by North Linn for the second time in the last three seasons, falling 10-1 to the fifth-ranked Lynx in the Saturday, July 12 Class 1A District 7 title game.

The Redhawks (14-10) managed just three hits, while the host Lynx (25-3) scored in five of their six at-bats. This was the second meeting of the two teams in just the last 10 days after North Linn beat North Tama 8-4 on July 2. Two years ago this month, the Lynx similarly cut off the Redhawks’ postseason run with a win 11-3 over the Redhawks in a second round matchup.

On Saturday evening, Chaz Hall doubled, Josh Dostal and Kayler Morris singled, and Bryce Dostal walked and scored the lone run for the Redhawks.

Josh Dostal went the distance on the mound, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and three total walks while striking out two.

Liam Thompson pitched five innings for the win for the Lynx, allowing one run on three hits and three total walks while striking out 12. Waylon Raue struck out three in two perfect innings of relief.

Mason Bechen went 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs to lead North Linn offensively. Cael Benesh was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Patrick Peyton was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

North Linn went on to face East Buchanan (16-9) in the Substate 4 final this past Tuesday at Independence High School after East Buchanan knocked off No. 8 Don Bosco, 5-4, to advance.
