Redhawk softball team can’t catch Tigers

MADRID — The North Tama softball team saw its season draw to a close with a 4-1 loss to Madrid in the Monday, July 7 Class 1A Region 8 opening-round game.
The Redhawks (5-14) managed just a solo run in the sixth inning, which at the time cut their deficit in half. Madrid (9-20) didn’t score until getting two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Tigers tacked on another two in the home half of the sixth.
Addison Hochstetler scored the lone run for North Tama. Violet Seda had two hits to lead the team, while Gabriella Seda doubled and walked. Faith Dvorak, Gabby Velasco and Lily Sell added singles.
Hochstetler got the loss in the circle, scattering 12 hits, two walks and a hit batter over six innings while striking out four.
