TRAER – Last Friday, the North Tama football team hosted Military Appreciation Night as part of its Week 4 game.

During the evening, all Redhawk varsity players sported National Guard-themed jerseys on loan from the Iowa National Guard. The district also granted complimentary admission to all Veterans including those currently serving.

Additionally, players’ helmets featured a new patriotic Redhawk logo.

Members of the military were invited onto Dennis Field to participate in the team’s pre-game entrance which was led by American Legion colorguard members from both the Traer and Clutier posts.

The Redhawks defeated 48-40 Colo-NESCO (2-2) that evening, marking the team’s second win overall this season and first district win. The game was a wild one, lasting over three hours due to numerous flags thrown in the final period. A total of 23 penalties were called during the game, per Redhawk head coach Andrew Knaack.

The Royals racked up a whopping 365 rushing yards to North Tama’s 83. On the flip side, Redhawk quarterback Kayvin Morris went 27-for-38, passing for 244 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while also running in one himself. Senior Clayton Williams rushed in two touchdowns while also leading the Redhawk defense with 13 tackles (10 solo); senior Drayke Dvorak notched one sack.
