Redhawks Roundball Roundup: Week 1

North Tama’s boys and girls basketball teams tipped off their respective seasons last week on Monday, Dec. 1, on the road against Belle Plaine.

The boys pummeled the Plainsmen 60-25 with Belle Plaine unable to score more than eight points total in any given quarter. Senior Kayler Morris notched a double-double, scoring a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead North Tama. Junior Jordan Dostal finished with 14, while junior Kayvin Morris and senior Josh Lasley (off the bench) each added another eight points apiece.

The Redhawk girls also opened the season with a win, defeating the Plainsmen 46-32. Senior Kruiz Ewoldt led North Tama with a whopping 25 points. Sophomore Shawna Cibula added eight more.

The next day, Tuesday, Dec. 2, North Tama was again on the road for a conference game with Colo-NESCO. The boys defeated the Royals 54-41 with Kayler Morris again racking up a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The girls also took the win, defeating Colo-NESCO 40-30 with Ewoldt again topping the stats with 18 points. Cibula along with sophomores Isla Breakenridge (off the bench) and Lilly Sell, and junior Kahlia Even powered the Redhawk defense with eight rebounds apiece.

The Redhawks ended their season-opening week with a loss at home to conference foe Baxter on Friday, Dec. 5. The boys fell 69-53 to the Bolts, while the girls suffered a 58-21 loss.

This week, both teams were set to face GMG at home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, but the games were canceled due to the impending blizzard conditions later that evening. Tonight, Friday, Dec. 12, both teams are scheduled to play Collins-Maxwell on the road.
