LA PORTE CITY – Union senior point guard Caden Sorensen was named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State second team in a vote of statewide media and coaches on Saturday, March 14, at the Casey’s Center. Per the Union Booster Club, he is the first Knights boys basketball player selected for All-State honors since 2009 when head coach Eric Jesse, then a senior at Union High School, was a Class 3A third-team selection..
Sorensen was the leading scorer for Union, finishing with 354 points despite suffering a season-ending injury during the final regular season game Feb. 12 against Grundy Center. The Knights ended the 2025-26 season 22-4 following first-round loss at the state tournament.
Sorensen averaged 16.1 points per game and broke/set numerous school records this season, including becoming No. 2 career scorer with 1,335 points; No. 1 career 3-pointers with 190; No. 4 career free throws with 157; No. 2 career assists with 378; No. 2 career steals with 162; No. 8 single season scorers – also No. 6 for 2022-23 season; No. 4 single season 3-pointers (55); No. 10 single season assists (84) – also No. 4 and No. 7 for past season assists; and No. 2 for single season 3-pointer percentage (42.3%). His prowess on the hardwood helped the Knights break the school record for most wins in a season – the previous record of 21 wins was held by the 2008-09 team.
