Knights soccer sees four postponements due to weather this season

LA PORTE CITY – Partly cloudy with a chance of no game.

As of this past Monday, April 20, the Union-North Tama girls soccer team had more games canceled due to Iowa’s fickle weather than it has played since the season was supposed to kick off April 2 but was pushed to April 7 due to weather. In total, the Knights have seen four of their games postponed – two alone against Aplington-Parkersburg – to a later date with only three played.

The conference match with A-P on Tuesday, April 14, followed by a non-conference road game against Decorah Friday, April 17, are the most-recently nixed games due to inclement weather which has included tornado watches. In-between the postponements, the Knights did manage to play their third game of the season Thursday, April 16, against Class 1A No. 4 Denver at home – marking their third shutout loss, 4-0.

Against the undefeated Cyclones, senior keeper Addie Pospisil made 18 saves in the net for the Knights. Denver scored twice in the first half and twice in the second, notching 27 shots on goal in total against Union-North Tama which only managed a pair – both courtesy sophomore forward Ellie Pospisil.

The Knights (0-3) were scheduled to play road games this week against non-conference Vinton-Shellsburg Monday, April 20, followed by Class 1A No. 14 Dike-New Hartford Tuesday before heading back to Union Stadium Thursday for an NICL showdown with Columbus Catholic. The newspaper will feature coverage from the latter match with the Sailors in next week’s edition.

This Saturday, April 25, Union-North Tama was scheduled to make up the postponed April 14 match with Class 1A No. 12 A-P.

Kickoff is set for 9:45 a.m. in La Porte City.
