CONRAD – The BCLUW volleyball team dedicated the Tuesday, Sept. 8 Iowa Star Conference match to their principal who recently passed away, and the Comets came away with an inspired performance in a five-set win over North Tama.

The then-11th-ranked Comets clipped the then-No. 4 Redhawks, 26-24, 19-25, 25-21, 13-25, 16-14, to claim the conference showdown between ranked Class 1A teams in thrilling fashion on a night when BCLUW needed it. The Comets dedicated the match to principal Josh Tack, who was killed in an ATV accident a month earlier.

BCLUW (7-7, 1-1) got a balanced attack with 13 kills by Raine Sireno, 11 from Kennedy Davis and 10 for Cambria Wayman. Sophomore setter Sally Ramirez totaled 38 assists.

Defensively, Addison Moeller made five blocks at the net and Kylie Pekarek had four more. Ramirez led with 27 digs while Brinna Benson and Wayman had 24 each. The Comets charted just three against the Redhawks but served 92-of-98 as a team.

Alaney Sienknecht had 20 kills and Lily Sell 17 to lead the Redhawks (11-6, 2-1).

In the fourth round of volleyball rankings compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and issued Sept. 17, North Tama retained its No. 6 ranking in Class 1A, while BCLUW moved up a notch to No. 9.

Ankeny Christian, Janesville, and Holy Trinity Catholic all retained the top three rankings, respectively, from the previous round.
