COLO – Led by game manager Kayvin Morris, the North Tama Redhawks came from behind to score 24 points in the third quarter and defeat the Colo-NESCO Royals, 42-20, in last Friday’s 8-Man District 6 clash in Colo.

The win marked North Tama’s first district triumph and second win overall this season.

The two teams were tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, the Royals managed another touchdown plus a 2-point conversion, while the Redhawks got one additional strike. The first half ended with North Tama down, 14-12.

In the third quarter, the Redhawks surged, racking up 24 points to the Royals’ six. Colo-NESCO did not score again. In the final quarter, North Tama logged one final TD toward the 42-20 victory.

The bulk of North Tama’s points against Colo-NESCO came on the ground, with starting quarterback Kayvin Morris rushing for 209 of the team’s 265 yards and hauling in all four touchdowns himself, including a 23-yard TD run. Maddox Rausch logged 11 carries for the remainder of the yardage.

Morris was 10-for-16 passing for 79 yards and one touchdown to Rausch who had four receptions for 27 yards. Griffin Hall received for 29 yards, Brayton Cibula had 13 yards and Berkley Dvorak another 10 yards. Two-point conversions were recorded by Morris (2) and Hall (1).

On defense, the Redhawks amassed 53 total tackles, led by Rausch (14.5) and Berkley Dvorak (13.5). Rausch returned one kickoff for a 71-yard touchdown.

Colo-NESCO (2-2, 1-2) also kept to the ground, rushing for 162 yards and two touchdown. Royals quarterback Aidyn Short threw for 21 yards and a TD.

Tonight, Friday, Sept. 25, North Tama (2-2, 1-1) was scheduled to play another 8-Man District 6 foe, the Meskwaki Settlement Warriors (0-4). Kickoff was set for 7 p.m. at Dennis Field in Traer.
