No. 3 Knights netters capture Marquette Catholic Invitational title

BELLEVUE – The Class 2A No. 3 Union volleyball team captured the Marquette Catholic Invitational title in Bellevue last Saturday, Sept. 26, moving to 23-2 on the season.
The Knights defeated all five tournament competitors for the title, including the hosts 21-6, 21-14. On the day, Union also took down Monticello (21-12, 21-16), Bellevue (21-12, 21-10), Midland (21-13, 21-4), and Maquoketa (21-6, 21-13).
The Union offense was led by senior outside hitter Bianca Grimm with 35 kills. Senior middle hitter Taylen Smith contributed 17 kills, junior middle hitter Caitlyn Schneider had 15 kills and senior outside hitter Abbie Estling added 10. Senior setter Hinley Mast totaled 67 assists on the day; freshman setter Avery Foulk contributed 27.
Junior libero Chloe Sadler led the defense with 24 digs and a service ace. Senior outside hitter Laikyn Ewoldt had 23 digs, five blocks, and five aces. Grimm made 21 digs, 2 blocks, and nine aces. Schneider had a whopping 10 blocks.
During the tournament, Estling reached a career milestone of 500 kills.
