No. 6 Redhawks clock conference win over Spartans; Sienknecht leads Class 1A in kills
TRAER – The Class 1A No. 6 North Tama volleyball team had a bit of a breather last week after playing 24 total matches since the season began in late August, taking to the courts just once on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and stomping out the Collins-Maxwell Spartans, 3-0, here in a conference matchup.
Sophomore outside hitter Alaney Sienknecht led the North Tama offense with 12 kills. As of presstime, she led in Class 1A with 264 kills, far outpacing the No. 2, Boyden-Hull senior Elsie Hoegh with 232. Across all classes, Sienknecht was No. 10.
Also against the Spartans, junior outside hitter Lily Sell had eight kills, while senior middle hitter Kahlia Even contributed four. Junior setter Isabelle Gropper made 19 assists.
Senior defensive specialist Grace Dvorak led the North Tama defense with nine digs and was 13-for-15 serving with five aces. Gropper had three digs, one block, and was 4-for-7 with two aces. Senior defensive specialist Harper Rausch had two digs. Even made two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Eva Williams led at the service line, going 12-of-12 with eight aces.
Following the clash with the Spartans (1-14, 0-4), the Redhawks (13-12, 3-1) had a week off from competition before hosting a triangular with Meskawki Settlement and Tripoli this past Tuesday in the Redhawks Nest.
This Saturday, Oct. 3, North Tama is set to travel to Waterloo for the Columbus Catholic Varsity Invitational. In addition to the hosts, nine (9) teams are scheduled to compete in the tournament, including Class 1A No. 9 BCLUW, Don Bosco, GMG, Independence, Marion, Newman Catholic, Class 2A No. 11 Regina Catholic, and Vinton-Shellsburg.
