TRAER – The North Tama football team recorded a Week 5, district victory last Friday night without setting a cleat on the gridiron following another forfeit this season by the short-rostered Meskwaki Settlement Warriors.

“The varsity football game scheduled for this Friday has been cancelled,” North Tama posted to social media ahead of the Sept. 25 matchup set for Dennis Field, while also indicating in the comments section the cancellation was due to injury on the part of the Warriors.

Similar circumstances played out earlier this season ahead of Meskawk’s scheduled Sept. 4 game with Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Sept. 18 clash with Clarksville – both fellow 8-Man District 6 teams. The Warriors varsity squad currently has 12 total rostered players, per Bound, including just four upperclassmen. After this story went to press, an official announcement was posted to social media by the Meskwaki Settlement school district announcing the cancellation of Warrior football’s 2026-27 season.

With the forfeit, North Tama improves to 3-2 (2-1).

The Redhawks were set to travel to Garwin tonight, Friday, Oct. 2, for a district clash with the GMG Wolverines (4-2, 1-2) who are coming off their own district shellacking, 56-6, of Collins-Maxwell (1-4, 1-2) last week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the GMG High School field.

Note, due to construction and temporary road closures related to GMG’s secondary addition project, parking in and around the high school on the east side is limited.
