Tama County Supervisors had little business for Monday mornings meeting.
Engineer Lyle Brehm states that Manatt’s intends to complete the shouldering on Highway D65 in two passes. The first pass, which is the majority of the work, will be completed today or tomorrow. The second pass, which will fine tune the slope of the shoulder, could very easily be done by the end of the week.
There will still be minor things to be completed such as silt fence, guardrail, seeding, etc. but the road will be very usable for citizens in a very short time frame.
The bridge on Abbott Avenue, south of Dunbar, is now open. The Bridge crew replaced a severely deteriorated bridge with a 3-ton weight limit.
Claims approved for the past week amounted to $340,612.36.

Tama County Supervisors set the date and time to canvas the General Election for Tuesday, November 9th at 8:30 a. m. at the Tama County Board of Supervisors room.
Two positions on The Tama County Pioneer Cemetery Association Board were presented by Joyce Wiese, President of the association for approval. Bonnie Murty (Robert) was chosen to replace Loren Emke. Murty lives in Crystal Township. Emke was one of the original board of nine who helped form the Pioneer Cemetery Association ten years ago. Emke has now made his home in Gladbrook at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home.
Dean Fisher has accepted the appointment to replace Phyllis McCoy who has served several years. McCoy asked to be replaced since she doesn’t feel she can be fruitful to the position any longer. Both Fisher and McCoy lives in Indian Village Township. Fisher’s term will expire December 31, 2011. Murty’s term will end December 31, 2010 and she will be reappointed for another three year term ending December 31, 2013. The ruling from the BIA on land purchased by the Meskwaki and being placed in trust came back to supervisors not accepting their request to not place it in trust. This means Tama County will be unable to collect property tax on a goodly amount of acres following this decision. Supervisor Chairman Dan Wilkens stated supervisors are disappointed with the decision and the expense the county is expected to cover without any reimbursement tax money.
County Engineer Lyle Brehm says the asphalt has been poured on Highway D65. Shoulder work will start on Tuesday and pavement marking is expected to be completed within a few days. Brehm also announced that the NEW HIGHWAY 30 eastbound will now be open for traffic. Brehm was asked about the county taking over the maintenance of old 30 that will still be used. Brehm says before old 30 is turned over to Tama County the State Department of Transportation will make a lump sum payment to the county to cover the cost of repairing old 30 to good condition.
Windstream was granted a permit for work in Richland Township.
Claims paid for the past week came to $96,336.80.
