Message from Traer Mayor Holden

City leadership has been in contact with the managers of local grocery stores and chains. After the initial surge in buying all expect shelves to be restocked as supply chains catch up.

Our parks and recreation areas will remain open for community use. However, practice good hygiene, do not gather in large groups and let the kids run.

I have faith in the community. The City is working diligently to care for the citizens of Traer and know the heart and strength with which our citizens always respond to adversity. We do not know what the coming days will hold, but be assured that the City of Traer is here to assist you with your questions and concerns.

Temporary North Tama School closure announced

North Tama Redhawks:

The North Tama County Community School District will be temporarily suspending all activities and instruction for an extended period starting on TUESDAY, MARCH 17. This decision is based on a recommendation from Governor Kim Reynolds on consultation with the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).

School was held on Monday, March 16. This gave students and staff an opportunity to gather personal belongings and prepare for an extended period of time away from school. As always, parents have the right to keep their child home if they feel it is in their child’s best interest. All absences related to COVID-19 will be counted as excused absences.

The duration of this school closure is yet to be determined. The Governor’s current recommendation is four weeks. We will use our normal text message and email notification system to keep parents informed as decisions are made.

Iowa law requires a minimum of 1080 hours of instruction over the course of a school year, so most of the missed time will need to be made up at a later date. Iowa law does not permit schools to substitute e-learning days for regular school days and count those hours toward the minimum required instructional hours.
