Hora-Machacek holds sewing day

Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary held a sewing day on Tuesday, October 3rd at the post home in Clutier. The following ladies were in attendance: Pauline Sienknecht, Margaret Babinat, Julia Babinat, Marlus Svoboda, Lillian Dostal, Eileen Hora, and Veronica Pavlicek. Pauline sewed carpet rags and Marlus and Julia sewed lap top quilts, Others cut and fastened plastic bags together in preparation for crocheting into plastic sleeping mats for the veterans Had a delicious noon potluck lunch.

President Veronica conducted our monthly meeting in the afternoon. She called the officers roll and read last months minutes which were approved as read.

Treasurer was absent so no financial report. Veronica reviewed our state, 3rd district and county obligations which the treasurer will pay immediately. Veronica presented bill for printing yearly planner and bake sale letters, plus postage for mailing. Julia Babinat made a motion, seconded by Pauline Sienknect to pay Veronica’s bill. Motion carried. Discussed and reviewed our poppy order as to how many we need to order. Julia Babinat made a motion to order 50 small and 200 large poppies, seconded by Eileen Hora. Motion carried.

Reviewed the itemized donation documentation from IVH for the donated items our unit had delivered. It consisted of 4 logic puzzle books, 5 word search puzzle books, 6 color books, 10 men’s hankies, 5 bottles of men’s cologne, 1 bottle shampoo and 5 men’s body wash.

Marlus Svoboda talked about the welcome of the Honor Flight returning home from Washington D. C. to Waterloo. Her husband, Laurence along with Richard Wiebbecke, Harry Hlas, Marvin Bohnstengel, and Mark Kucera were on the flight. She was impressed by all the people and Legionnaires that were present in addition to a band and K of C bagpipers.

October 15th is our unit’s bake sale from 8am to noon at the post home in Clutier. Legion will be having a pancake breakfast same day. October 21st is the 3rd district conference in Conrad/Beaman. October 28th is IVH Halloween dance at Althea dining hall at 1:30pm.

November 7th we will be having a sewing day, with potluck lunch at noon, and monthly meeting in the afternoon.
