CEDAR RAPIDS – Several members of North Tama’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter attended the annual Iowa FCCLA Leadership Conference in Cedar Rapids March 22-24. Among the highlights, sophomore Silas Johnson and seventh-grader Elyza Donaldson earned first place team honors in the Food Truck Challenge.
The Food Truck Challenge judged participants on their ability to create and design a food truck plus one food item to sample (prepared ahead of time). Participants were required to submit a portfolio detailing their food truck name, theme, and logo; equipment list; equipment layout inside the food truck; outside design of the food truck; menu board with cost sheet (including five food items and three drinks); and a short write-up indicating why design choices were selected.
Johnson and Donaldson’s entry was named Honey Pot BBQ and included a sample of their burnt ends for the judges to try.
“We were all so excited as we didn’t expect it!” North Tama FCCLA chapter sponsor Rachel Donaldson proudly told the newspaper about her students’ success.
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S, Silas and Elyza!
