TRAER – Allie Zobel hit three free throws with less than a second to go to force overtime and the North Tama girls pulled ahead of East Marshall in the extra period for a 69-65 victory.

Kailey Kladivo led the Class 1A No. 9 Redhawks with 25 points and three steals.

East Marshall (9-8) made 1-of-2 from the foul line with 4 seconds left in regulation to take a three-point lead.

North Tama (15-1) was able to travel the length of the court and Zobel was fouled with 00.7 left on the clock. She made all three free throws. Zobel finished the night with 12 points and five assists.

“It was great ball on both sides,” said North Tama head coach Irv Laube. “Our girls played well, it was a very well-fought battle.”

Erin Herink added 10 points and three assists for the Redhawks, while Sydney Fehr had 10 points. As a team, North Tama went 20-for-28 from the free-throw line on its way to tying the single-season school record for wins.

Four scored in double figures for the visiting Mustangs, which used a man-to-man defense in the second half to make up a 12-point halftime deficit.

Alyssa Whitmore and Abby Nuese had 16 points apiece for East Marshall. Tara Gray added 14 points and Chelsea Whitmore 13.
