It’s time for Tama County Women, Land & Legacy’s twenty-fifth event!

A light supper will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m. It is being sponsored by Tama Livestock Auction, USS Polaris/Upah Tax Service and Tama County Farm Bureau. The event will follow at 6:00. The meal and event are free of charge and open to the public, both women and men.
Tama County WLL is pleased to welcome central Iowa photographer Marji Guyler-Alaniz to Toledo for a presentation of FarmHer, Marji’s project to show women working in all different types of agriculture. Marji shared her FarmHer exhibit at USDA Headquarters in Washington D.C. in March 2015 in celebration of National Ag Day. She had the opportunity to discuss the importance of women in agriculture with numerous dignitaries, including USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden.
“FarmHer has been the most amazing journey that I never knew I was looking for,” shares Marji. “Through FarmHer, I have met amazing women. They have shared with me their stories of how agriculture came to be in their life, how it has changed their life, and mostly, how they love what they do.”

Several local agencies are working to bring Women, Land and Legacy to Tama County- Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, Tama County Extension Service, Iowa Valley Resource Conservation & Development, and the Tama Soil & Water Conservation District. Special thanks to the ladies who serve on the Women, Land, and Legacy Local Team: Rebecca Hosek, Julia Babinat, Margaret Babinat, Glenda Devick, Georgette Edel, Jan Wobeter and Lou Ellen Brown.
In recent years, women’s roles in Iowa agriculture have changed dramatically. It has become more and more evident there is a need to reach out to women at the local level and to help them make connections they may find helpful as landowners, farmers, and other important role-players in our state’s largest industry.
In response to this increasing need, the USDA State Outreach Council has designed the grassroots program Women, Land & Legacy. It is currently active in numerous Iowa counties and brings together Iowan women interested in agriculture, local food and natural resources to converse, listen and become empowered for involvement on their landscape and in their communities.
Persons needing accommodations to participate in this event should contact Melody Bro at 641/484-2702, ext. 305, TDD# or Federal Relay Service at 1-800-877-8339, or melody.bro@ia.nacdnet.net .
