Champion promotes geothermal energy at IA State Fair
Jared Hasselmann and Carri Holst of Champion Enterprises represented WaterFurnace Geothermal systems at the Iowa State Fair.
Champion Enterprises, a WaterFurnace geothermal dealer in Traer, recently attended the 2015 Iowa State Fair and worked in the WaterFurnace booth (# 610-611 in the Varied Industries Building) to discuss and explain geothermal technology and WaterFurnace equipment. There was a high interest level in geothermal technology at the Fair this year. Consumers had a chance to view photos of several actual WaterFurnace installations from throughout the state of Iowa. These graphics showed the tremendous operating costs savings that geothermal offers. Additionally, an actual operating WaterFurnace geothermal system was available for consumers to experience the comfort of the system!
When it comes to getting a good deal on a home cooling and heating, an increasing number of homeowners are going underground and turning to geothermal heating and cooling as an alternative to using gas or propane. Here are some reasons why:
Efficiency and savings-Geothermal systems use the energy already stored in the earth and offer savings of up to 70 percent a year. Plus, you’re not left vulnerable to volatility in the fossil fuel market or delivery prices.
Convenience-There’s no waiting for fuel deliveries or running out of fuel at an inconvenient time. Unlike other renewable technologies such as solar or wind, geothermal heat pumps work year-round and day and night, regardless of outdoor conditions, and they require less space.
Durability-Geothermal heat pumps have about a 25-year life span, while the underground piping system that accesses the stored energy can last more than 100 years. Fossil-fuel furnaces, however, generally have to be replaced after 15 years or so.
Tax Credits-A 30 percent federal tax credit PLUS a 6% State of Iowa tax credit (if the home is located in Iowa) is available to homeowners who install a geothermal heating and cooling system through the end of 2016. Some utility and state rebates may also be available.
Versatility-Unlike traditional systems, a single geothermal unit from WaterFurnace-which manufactures and sells more geothermal systems for homes than anyone else-can provide both heating and cooling. Some can even heat water. In some cases, this can mean up to 70 percent savings on utility bills.
