COVID-19 cases now stand at 14 in Tama County

Note: As news regarding Covid-19 continues to change on a daily basis this article has been updated from the time of deadline.

From the last report available at Star-Clipper press time the Governor’s office said the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has been notified of 52 additional positive cases of Iowans with COVID-19 (as of April 1), for a total of 549 positive cases. There have been a total of 7,304 negative tests to date, which includes testing reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs.

The additional positive cases include:

Tama County, 1 adult (18-40 years) bringing the county-wide total to 14.

A National Guard transport delivered some personal protective equipment for Tama County Public Health and Home Health Care on Tuesday,March 24. Emergency Management- E911 Director Mindy Benson reports she met the convoy to receive the equipment.

She said the shipment came from the State of Iowa, Iowa Department of Public Health.

“We also received a second shipment of PPE on March 26 that the Iowa State Patrol delivered here to the Sheriff’s office,” Benson told The Chronicle

“I am still awaiting on more PPE shipment for Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS for Tama County responders that will hopefully be here (now) and we should have our responders PPE needs met for the next few weeks,” Benson added.

NEI3A looks to food security for elderly

WATERLOO- Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) is focusing on food security of older individuals age 60 and over and their caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency serves Tama and 17 other counties.

“Proper nutrition is a key component to remaining healthy, and we are serving approximately 1,000 meals to people per day,” stated Donna Harvey, NEI3A CEO. “While we have seen an increase in the number of people we are serving, we do have the capacity to help more individuals.”

NEI3A staff is making weekly calls to each home-delivered meal recipient to ensure their safety and to identify any emerging unmet needs.
