Former Clutier clerk pleads guilty to three counts first-degree theft

Keri Kopriva

Keri Ann Kopriva, 42, currently of Elberon, entered a guilty plea in person in district court on August 4 to three counts (Counts 4, 5, and 6) of first-degree theft, a Class C felony. By pleading guilty, Kopriva withdrew a previously entered plea of not guilty to the original seven charges in this case.

Charges stem from a special investigation requested in 2020 by City of Clutier officials as a result of concerns regarding certain financial transactions from 2015 to 2019. A 2020 report from the Office of Auditor of State identified $64,529.94 of improper disbursements and $43,450.00 of estimated undeposited collections that Kopriva allegedly oversaw during her tenure as City Clerk of Clutier. Kopriva held the city clerk position from August 22, 2012, until February 4, 2019.

A sentencing hearing is set for October 6 at 1:00 p.m. Kopriva is represented by attorney Arach Joseph Wilson, III of Des Moines.
