Union hosted the North Iowa Cedar League (NICL) Conference meet this last week Thursday with the Knight girls bringing home a fourth-place team finish and snagging a top-10 via runner Amilia Condon.

Sophomore Condon was ranked 18th in Class 2A heading into the post-season this week. On her home course in La Porte City on October 13, she finished 10th out of 87 runners with a time of 20:24.62.

All but three of Condon’s teammates placed in the top third with junior Lauren Youngblut coming in 16th (20:50.39), sophomore Lily Lorenzen in 22nd (21:15.07), and junior Sydney Anton in 32nd (22:05.48). Rounding out the Union girls’ results were Emily Petersen in 60th (23:24.21), Kate Carlson in 74th (24:11.48), and Brooklyn Hubbard in 80th place (24:57.63).

Lorenzen – running with her trademark ‘thumbs up’ – had a particularly exciting finish as she came down the funnel, sandwiched between Class 1A No. 5 Hudson’s Kate Holton and Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Laney Dole. Lorenzen came in 4/100 of a second behind Holton while outright beating Dole to the finish by almost two seconds.

While first place in the girls’ race went to Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Hillary Trainor, the Denver girls’ team took the NICL Conference Championship title with 47 points. Out of 12 scoring teams, Hudson secured runner-up with 75 points, followed by Jesup in third with 128 points, Union in fourth with 136 points, and Sumner-Fredericksburg in fifth with 144 points.
