Knights girls finish fourth, boys tie for fifth at NICL track meet

DIKE – Union girls and boys track scored a fourth and fifth place finish, respectively, this past Thursday evening at the NICL Mega Meet hosted by Dike-New Hartford with the girls team racking up 79 points, and the boys totaling 55.33 points for a tie with South Hardin.

Fifteen teams competed in the conference meet; Denver placed first for both the girls (105 points) and boys (117 points) teams.

The Knights earned a conference championship from junior Sydney Anton in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15:52 ahead of runner-up, Olyvia Bellows of Aplington-Parkersburg.

Including Anton’s first place finish, the Union girls logged 15 separate top-8 scoring finishes across both field and track events.

Kate Carlson took sixth in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, while Amilia Condon took third in both the 1500-meter and 3000-meter runs.

Ava Mills took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16:52. Anton was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.59.

The Knights girls 4X100 shuttle hurdle relay team took second (Ava Mills, Regan Sorensen, Sydney Anton, Jailyn Petersen), while the 800 sprint medley team took fourth (Anabelle Siech, Aubrey Gates, Ruby Parson, Kate Carlson).

Brigitte Rohrer was runner-up in shot put with a put of 36 feet, 10.75 inches. Rohrer also earned a bronze in discus with a throw of 109 feet, 4 inches.

Lily Lorenzen took seventh place in the high jump.

Union girls’ 4X400 and 4X800 relay teams both placed seventh, and the 4X200 relay team took eighth.

The Union boys team earned 11 top-8 finishes including freshman Levi Hadachek’s fourth-place finishes in both the 100-meter (11:52) and 200-meter (23:67) dashes.

Logan Rosauer finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15:28. Rosauer was also the runner-up in the long jump field event with a jump of 19 feet, 11 inches – behind champion Jerek Hall of Dike-New Hartford who jumped 19 feet, 11.5 inches. Rosauer took bronze in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15:28.

In the high jump, Union’s Justice Luke tied for second with a six-foot jump.

Knights boys including runners Levi Hadachek, Trevor Clark, Logan Rosauer, and Mason Mullen took bronze in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:38.39.

Union’s boys’ 4X110 shuttle hurdle (Briar Mast, Justice Luke, Andrew Sadler, Logan Rosauer) and 4X100 (Evan Hanus, Trevor Clark, Briar Mast, Levi Hadachek) relay teams both took fourth, while the 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams finished sixth.

The Knights will return to Dike next week Thursday, May 11 in the Class 2A state qualifier where they will face athletes from Aplington-Parkersburg, Columbus Catholic, Dike-New Hartford, East Marshall, Grundy Center, Hudson, Iowa Falls, Manson-NW Webster, Roland-Story, South Hardin, and West Marshall.

Qualifiers will advance to the 2023 Iowa High School Track and Field Championships set for May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
