The Tama County communities of Dysart and Traer were honored recently by the Iowa Senate courtesy of state Sen. Eric Giddens (D-Cedar Falls) – whose district includes both towns – in celebration of their respective sesquicentennial anniversaries this year.

Sen. Giddens stopped by city hall in both towns on Tuesday, Sept. 19, presenting certificates of recognition to Mayor Pete Holden in Traer in the morning, and Mayor Tim Glenn of Dysart in the afternoon.

Traer’s certificate read, in part: “The city was established in 1873 with the help and assiduity of John W. Traer, well known legislator, banker, businessman, and city namesake. For one hundred and fifty years, the people of Iowa have found many reasons to “Wind up in Traer,” whether to visit the iconic Winding Staircase, or enjoy the small-town spirit, and will continue to prosper thanks to the leadership of City Mayor Pete Holden, the members of the Traer City Council, and the hard work and determination of its citizens.”

The certificates include the official seal of the State of Iowa’s 90th General Assembly, and will be displayed in each community’s city hall.
