CLUTIER – Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary #453 met on Wednesday, November 8 at the Clutier post home. The day began at 9 a.m. with the following members and guests: Collette W, Bev C, Diane C, Pauline S, Julia B, Mary S, Linda D, Veronica P, Deb K, Brenda H, and Valerie S. Some placed quilt top, middle and back together and then sewed together. They sewed together 16 lap quilts and Pauline will take them home and tie them. Sixteen previously completed lap quilts will be delivered to the Waterloo VA clinic. Others cut strips out of grocery plastic bags, connected them and balled for crocheting into sleep mats. It was an enjoyable morning working together and especially fellowship. A potluck lunch was enjoyed at noon.

President Veronica conducted the afternoon monthly meeting. She called the roll and read October minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane reviewed our finances.

Thank you members for food items and donations to the bake sale. A big thank you to anyone who had come to enjoy Legion’s breakfast and purchase food items or gave donations at the bake sale. It was a huge success for both the Legion and Auxiliary. Veronica presented a bill which consisted of mailing 33 bake sale letters and printing. Linda made a motion to pay Veronica and also a payment to Legion for the newspaper ad, seconded by Mary. Motion carried. Julia made a motion to give monetary donation to Clutier Fire Dept and the Clutier 1st Responders, seconded by Linda. Motion carried. Pauline made a motion to give monetary donation to Legion for fuel assistance for months of December, January and February, Bev seconded. Motion carried.

Diane reported on the county meeting that was on October 23 at Traer. Our deceased members that were recognized at the memorial service were: Evelyn Caloud, Jean Miller, Vera Sevcik, Marlus Svoboda, Martha Plucar, and Helen Sevcik. Reviewed the IVH picnic. Served 89 residents and plans are to continue for next year. At the IVH Foreign Food Fair the three dozen kolaches from the units seemed to be the right amount. The Fair may be moved back to March in 2024. Next county meeting will be March 26, 2024 at Clutier post home with an afternoon meeting beginning at 1:30 p.m.

A trip to IVH is planned for January 18 to view rug making. It will be at 1 p.m. Meeting at the gift shop at 12:30 p.m. If you wish to go let Diane know by December 1st. More info will be coming out after the December meeting.

Diane had taken a picture of ALA headquarters in Indianapolis, and also a picture of the brick with our name, city, and state on it and where it is located. We will be framing and hanging it up in the hall.

Our December meeting will be on the fifth at 1:30 p.m. at the post home. Next sewing day will be on Tuesday, January 2, beginning at 9 a.m.
