​​Traer Community Foundation announces 2024 grants

TRAER – The Traer Community Foundation Board of Directors has announced the 2024 disbursements for a total of $57,391.23

This is the 32nd year of awarding grants. The total of Foundation grants, to the community, now total $1,001,000.00.

These are the community betterment projects by non-profit organizations, that received funds this year:

Christian Hands Across Traer: $6,000 — Safety net for Families including food, clothes, heat, etc.

North Tama Community School: $2,590.86 — Purchase new Chromebook carts for charging and storage

North Tama Community School: $225 — Kindergarten field trip to Hansen’s Dairy Farm

North Tama Community School: $7,000 — Furniture for 5th grade classrooms

North Tama Community School: $8,593.48 — NT football field/playground division

North Tama Baseball: $2,056.86 — Field maintenance

Redhawk Youth Sports Association: $1,269.44 // Wind backdrop

Traer Chamber of Commerce: $5,000 — Holiday season displays

Traer Ecumenical Vacation Bible School: $1,000 — T-shirts, Biblical keepsakes & craft supplies

Traer Fire Department: $2,455.62 — Drop tank for water storage

Traer Historical Museum, Inc.: $1,300 — Rolling ladder

Traer Historical Museum, Inc.: $3,224.97 — Technology update (computer and monitor)

Winding Stairs Festival: $4,175 — Big Balloon show, facepainting, caricature sketches, etc.

In addition, the North Tama County Community School District received $1,427.96 from the Carol Weber Borden gift to upgrade the chorus room recording studio for students in grades K-12.

All gifts made to the Foundation qualify as charitable donations for the donor, and are recognized as such by the Internal Revenue Service. This gives donors the ability to donate to the community of Traer and avoid federal and state income, estate and gift taxes on those contributions.

Gifts to the Foundation may be made in cash, appreciated securities, real estate, pledges, deferred gifts (such as life insurance proceeds or bequests through wills), or charitable remainder trusts.

The Foundation will receive and accept properties and gifts for the benefit of Traer and its citizens, and will distribute those gifts to community organizations such as those named above, either as the donor directs the funds to be spent, or as the Foundation’s Board of Directors select.

Board members include: chairman, Jon Panfil representing the Traer City Council, vice- chairman, Michelle Podhajsky representing Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Brian Frisbie representing Kubik-Finch American Legion Post of Traer, Taylor Howard representing North Tama County Community School and Tracey Hulme, representing the Traer Chamber of Commerce. Bruce Reinders serves as secretary for the Foundation and the Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Traer serves as Trustee.
