TOLEDO – It was standing room only at last Monday morning’s Tama County Supervisors meeting. Packed into the meeting room like sardines in a tin, the public that showed up was mainly concerned with the agenda item regarding the appointment of a new zoning/weed administrator. This is due to the incident from last week, where it was learned that two people were interviewed for the position without Chairman Curt Hilmer’s knowledge. Several present utilized the public comment time to air their opinions on the issue. When it came to the actual discussion on the issue by the supervisors, Hilmer did most of the talking, restating his ignorance of the interviews, amongst his other statements. It was ultimately decided to re-open the application process until June 30, 2024. A decision will then be made in July.

The Tama County Engineer gave his report saying a culvert on G Avenue south of Old 30 that had been washed out is being replaced. Miscellaneous culverts will have debris cleaned out, and 115th Street continues to be worked on – last week they did ditch work, and this week potholes. P Avenue and 220th Street also have projects in progress, a creek bank near Richard Novak’s house is eroding, it is uncertain whether the State will help in this situation, but the problem will be looked into. Blades and units have started hauling in with the repowering. It was also approved to reclassify a part of P Avenue to an Area Service C road.

Tammy Wise from HR spoke to the supervisors briefly about changes being made to the handbook.

A resolution was passed raising the per-meeting rate for Township Trustees and Clerks; the rate increased from $15 to $25.
