DYSART – It’s everything sugar, spice, and savory in the former LB’s Pizza space.

On Saturday, Aug. 16, Main Street Dysart’s newest business, Sugar & Spice Eatery and Sweets held its grand opening and ribbon cutting in the former home of LB’s Pizza at 312 Main Street.

“Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us today!” the business posted on Facebook following the event. “Your support made our grand opening SPECTACULAR! So great, in fact, that we sold out of almost everything baked!!”

The new business, which bills itself as “Dysart’s Daily Dose of Delicious,” is owned and operated by Jon and Courtney Azbill along with their son Kale Azbill. Per a recent social media post, Jon, a Union alum and former machinist at John Deere, decided after 14 years to “put up my steel boots and get out my apron” as part of his new role as head chef at Sugar & Spice Eatery and Sweets. In recent years, Jon also worked as the marketing manager for the former Busy Bees Total Care & Transportation which was owned and operated by his sisters, Melanie Grimm and Reianna Cross, in the building that now houses the expanded dining space of Harper’s Public House.

“With a love for baking and a desire to share our creations with the community, we set out to bring something new and exciting to our hometown,” the new bakery/cafe’s website proclaims. “What sets us apart is our commitment to using only the finest ingredients, many sourced locally if possible and our attention to detail in every recipe.”

Sugar & Spice Eatery and Sweets makes fresh pastries, breads, pizzas, and sweets daily and features an extensive breakfast and lunch menu that includes appetizers, soups, salads, and sides in addition to pizza and sandwiches. The sweets menu encompasses everything from gourmet cupcakes to donuts, ice cream to croissants, cake pops to cannoli, cookies to macarons.

In terms of drinks, the business brews up coffee from Schuil Coffee Company, a Michigan-based company, as well as espresso alongside blended frappes, sweet tea, fountain pop, smoothies, and more.

Since the grand opening, the business has already had to alter its hours to accommodate demand. Per Facebook, while closed on Monday, Sugar & Spice Eatery and Sweets is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for takeout only; Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for takeout only.
