Hora-Machacek Unit 453 holds sewing day and meeting Oct. 7
CLUTIER – Hora-Machacek Unit 453 of the American Legion Auxiliary met on Oct. 7, 2025. Sewing on lap quilts and cutting and rolling plastic bags started at 9 a.m. Those helping were Linda, Julia, Collette, Diane, Brenda and Cindy. Pauline arrived at about 10:30. Eleven quilts were put together and quite a few balls of plastic bags for mats were done.
A potluck at noon was enjoyed by all.
The regular meeting was called to order at 1:30 by Vice President Linda due to the absence of President Veronica. There were five members present – Linda, Julia, Collette, Pauline and Diane.
Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Diane gave the treasurer’s report and it was approved as presented. Bills were presented for two U.S. flags and one P.O.W. Flag.
Those who worked at Eileen Hora’s funeral were Diane, Julia, Linda, Collette and Butch. A donation was given to the Auxiliary in memory of Eileen. We also received a donation from the Quilters. Thank yous were sent.
Discussion was held on the upcoming Bake Sale on Oct. 19 to be held in conjunction with the Legion’s Pancake Breakfast. We went through the price list and updated it.
Those present looked at shirts to order that have either the Auxiliary emblem on them or the logo. Some ordered shirts.
Discussion was held on getting more of the bronze memorial markers for the cemeteries. Motion was made and approved to get 24.
Collette said she has about 50 laps quilts that will be ready to deliver to the VA. It was decided to go ahead and deliver them now.
Poppy order is due Oct. 20. Ordered 100 small poppies and 100 large poppies.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 5, with sewing starting at 9 a.m.; potluck at noon; and meeting at 1:30 p.m. Note change of date.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 3 p.m.
