MARSHALLTOWN — Grant Gibbons has been named the new publisher of The Times-Republican and the Tama-Grundy weekly publications.
Gibbons, who has worked in the newspaper industry since 1988, started in his new position Dec. 15, replacing Terry Christensen who retired Nov. 21. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
For the past three years, Gibbons has been the publisher of The Journal in New Ulm, Minn. and the Independent in Marshall, Minn. Previously, he served as regional circulation director at The Messenger in Fort Dodge and was overseeing the circulation efforts at The Times-Republican as part of his responsibilities before moving to Minnesota. Gibbons said he is excited about the challenge ahead.
In each of the communities where Gibbons has lived and worked, he has been an active citizen beyond his newspaper duties. He was a chamber of commerce ambassador in Marshall, Minn.; a school board member for 12 years at Southeast Webster-Grand (now Southeast Valley), including four years as president; and served as mayor of Harcourt, Iowa, for six years. He also was a former president of the Northern States Circulation Managers Association.
And while Gibbons is a native of Wisconsin, he now considers Iowa home.
“I’ve moved a few times, and central Iowa is just special. I am glad to serve this area in a job that means a lot to me and is important in filling a community need. We have a good team at The Times-Republican that works hard to serve the residents and businesses in the greater Marshalltown area.”
