In 1898, the space at the top of Traer’s winding staircase (aka the Winding Stairs) was a newspaper office. This photo shows the printing press and some of the Traer Star-Clipper newspaper staff at the time. The skylight in the ceiling provided (enough light) for typesetting and running the printing press. The window and door in back go to the back stairway to the alley.
