TRAER – The new Peoples Community Health Clinic officially began accepting patients this past Monday, May 4, inside the former MercyOne building in downtown Traer.
Prior to Monday, the clinic had been scheduling appointments at the new satellite location via its main office line in Waterloo.
This past December, MercyOne shuttered its Traer clinic located at 200 Walnut Street after previously doing the same to clinics in Dysart and Gladbrook. Following news of the Traer closure, the building’s owners, the nonprofit North Tama Medical Associates, quickly got to work finding a new provider.
Peoples Community Health Clinic, Inc. was established in 1976. In addition to the new satellite clinic in Traer, Peoples Clinic operates two Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in Waterloo and Clarksville (Peoples Clinic Butler County). According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, FQHCs are community-based, federally funded clinics that provide essential services, including primary, dental, and mental health care, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. Such outpatient clinics offer sliding scale fees and receive enhanced Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.
On Wednesday, May 20, Peoples Clinic will host an Open House in Traer from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend, learn about available services and meet providers and staff while enjoying refreshments.
To make an appointment for Peoples Clinic-Traer, call 319-652-3332 or stop in during clinic hours — Mondays and Tuesdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesdays 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Fridays 8 a.m. to noon. The clinic is closed on Thursdays.
