Ruby Bernice Reed of Reno, Nevada died Saturday June 8, 2013. Ruby suffered a brain hemorrhage August, 2005, shortly after her eightieth birthday. Her long-term companion, Robert Lattimer provided steadfast support and care as her health gradually declined these past eight years.

Ruby Reed, the daughter of Otto and Lizzie Reinke, was born July 25, 1925 near Keystone, Iowa. Ruby attended Dysart High School graduating in 1942. On October 14, 1944, she married Robert R. Reed at the home of her parents in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Among many jobs, Ruby and Bob owned and operated Reed’s Clothing and Variety store for 12 years in Dysart. A few years after Bob Reed’s death in 1985, Ruby moved to California. She and Robert Lattimer, lived in Carpinteria, a California coastal community, for several years. They then moved to Reno, Nevada where she resided for the past 11 years.

She is survived by her six children, Gregory (Joan) Reed of Grapevine, TX., Randall Reed of Waterloo, Kristine (Thomas) Birge of Half Moon Bay, CA., Timothy Reed of Pompano Beach, FL., Thomas Reed and Katherine Plummer of Waterloo; her sister, Joyce Hanes of Mason City; long-term companion Robert Lattimer of Reno NV.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A public gathering to celebrate her life will be held August 24, at noon, in the Dysart Community Building, following an 11:00 public service at United Methodist Church in Dysart. Private burial in Dysart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norma Anders Public Library in Dysart, IA.
